Two years after the Leipzig fight and immediately following the destruction of Asgard, the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy learn that the Mad Titan Thanos is seeking to collect the Infinity Stones, which are said to be the most powerful artifacts in the universe. Facing an enemy too powerful to stop alone, the Avengers and the Guardians, alongside Doctor Strange, Black Panther and Spider-Man must come together and stop Thanos from inflicting his power and destroying the universe.
The mad titan Thanos (Josh Brolin) begins his hunt for the most powerful objects in the universe, the Infinity Stones, in Marvel Studios' highly anticipated Avengers: Infinity War. With the Space Stone, given by Loki (Tom Hiddleston), and the Power Stone, Thanos sends (Ebony Maw, Cull Obsidian to retrieve the Time Strone from Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), sends Proxima Midnight, and Corvus Glaive) to retrieve the Mind Stone from Vision (Paul Bettany). Meanwhile, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) meets up with Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and sorcerers Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Wong (Benedict Wong). With help from Peter Parker (Tom Holland), A.K.A. Spider-Man, Stark and Strange join forces together and agree to stop Thanos. In space, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) also joins forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), and Gamora (Zoe Saldana), the daughter of Thanos who warns Thor of his power. Thor travels away to defeat Thanos with Rocket and Groot while the other Guardians join forces with Stark, Strange, and Parker. In Wakanda, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and his team, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), War Machine (Don Cheadle), and Bruce Banner to protect Vision and the Mind Stone in his forehead. With protection given from King T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman), A.K.A. Black Panther, and his Wakandan army, Thanos will come for everyone to destroy half the universe.
After watching this movie now for a second time, I have to conclude that it is definitely the best Marvel movie yet! It certainly was tricky for the directors and writers to include so many different characters from the MCU in the movie, yet they managed to do so brilliantly, cutting to different character plots at clever points to tell the story. What really makes the movie so superior is that Josh Brolin's Thanos is a deep, complex villain who you can't say is inherently evil because he realises there are finite resources within this universe although his method of genocide is clearly not the right way to go about things! But Thanos is definitely the greatest Marvel villain to date, especially given that unlike many other Marvel villains, we have seen him before in the Guardians movies and post-credits for both previous Avengers films. The performances by everyone in this movie are exceptional, everyone is undoubtedly at the top of their game here - in particular, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr, whose characters have now evolved to such an extent that their desperation and desire for vengeance (especially in Thor's case) is truly apparent in the execution of their roles. Zoe Saldana's Gamora is also wonderful in this movie, I definitely like the character a lot more than before due to her heartfelt speech to Thanos before he trades her for the soul stone: "All my life I dreamed of a day, a moment, when you got what you deserved. And I was always so disappointed. But now, you kill and torture and you call it mercy. The universe has judged you. You asked it for a prize and it told you no. You failed. And do you wanna know why? Because you love nothing. No one." AMAZING WRITING! Not to mention, the special effects, oh my word, they are out of this world! (Literally!) If this isn't nominated for Visual effects come Oscar Time, there will be riots! The whole thing is just spectacular. It is certainly heartbreaking at the end to see all these characters being turned to dust, especially ones who are the more recent Avengers, but it certainly raises the stakes to have the movie end on such a gripping, apocalyptic note! Of course, many people believe these characters will be revived - come on, are you really going to kill off Black Panther? - somehow in Avengers 4, especially as there is already GOTG 3 in the works as well as Spiderman 2 & Black Panther 2. This probably means some of the OG Avengers are gonna hit the bucket, but we've had a good run with them and it's time for some new faces. Fingers crossed Bucky becomes the new cap (Seb Stan still has 3 movies left in his contract!) Will cry all over again I'm sure next April but I just cannot wait to go see it!!! Thank God Captain Marvel arrives next March - this girl gonna kick some purple ass in Avengers 4 no doubt! If you haven't seen this movie yet, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? GOOOO!!!
Was as funny as any Marvel movie but definitely not funnier. I choked up more during this than during any other Marvel movie. Higher stakes and loss equals more emotion. Tons of action. Cliffhanger at the end leaves you wondering what's next. Best villain of any Marvel movie, by far. I still feel like there were some missed opportunities, but the job the Russos did of juggling this many characters and keeping it this good is quite a feat.
As a virtuoso juggling act, Infinity War has no real parallel in popular culture; as a movie, it’s an impressive montage of greatest hits until the gut punch of a finale.
